FERNANDEZ, Yolanda Lázaro. Aprender disfrutando: una experiencia de ocio para adultos/mayores en la Universidad. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.3, pp.751-782. ISSN 1518-6148.

We are now in a time when programs and educational and training systems must adapt to changes and dynamics that this new century settles in society. Changes such as an increased life expectancy, the development of leisure as an individual and collective part of quality of life and ability to reconcile the teaching-learning with labor development, family and leisure in se, make the educational systems be much more flexible. And University, as a part of this social change, should be there promoting teaching and learning throughout the life of individuals avoiding to consider age as a discriminator. Several investigations, according to Withnall, A. (2002) show that participation in learning spaces for the elderly has positive consequences, such as increasing self-satisfaction, keeping an active mind, or activating intellectual stimulation, pleasure and enjoyment. It promotes personal autonomy, improve the quality of life at all levels and constitute a major commitment to building a society for all ages. Throughout the following pages, we will face training programs for adults/elder people developed at the universities as entertainment experiences for them. Thus, firstly, there will be an approximation to the elderly in today's society, trough the exhibition of the figures which represent their situation in the Spain. Secondly, we will continue with a brief definition and history of academic studies designed for them. Then, the paper will continue studying what is meant by entertainment experience, and the benefits it provides. Finally, we will consider whether these programs could be considered a leisure experience for those who attend them.
