FERRAZ, Sabrina Borges e SERRALTA, Fernanda Barcellos. The plastic surgery impact on self-steem. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2007, vol.7, n.3. ISSN 1808-4281.
Beauty and its consequences on self-representation have major effects on people’s behavior and relations. In this context, plastic surgery becomes, for some people, the solution for a “defective genetics”. In order to investigate its effects on self-esteem, interviews were conducted with six women who underwent plastic surgery within the last two years. Content analysis method was used to analyze the results, and inferences and interpretations were based on psychoanalytic literature. In general, the results indicate that plastic surgery increased self-esteem and self-harmony of participants, healed theirs real or imaginary deformity, and positively altered theirs personal and sexual relations
