COSSI, Rafael Kalaf. Stoller and psychoanalysis: from gender identity to the lacanian semblance. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2018, n.49, pp.31-43. ISSN 0100-3437.
In this paper, we initially examine Robert Stoller’work, notably in his course by psychoanalysis. We have found that Stoller has spread throughout his work from the various manifestations of sexuality to anthropological studies. As the pioneer of the use of the term gender in the psychoanalytic context, Stoller proposed several modifications to the freudian theory of the Oedipus. His theses were widely disseminated on anglo-saxon territory and exercised decisive influence on exponents of English psychoanalysis. Best known in Brazil for his research on transsexuality, we proved that his insistent intent was to develop what he called “core gender identity, which was criticized by Lacan in the seminar XVIII. The stollerian proposition was the starting point for the lacanian development of the notion of semblance and we follow that: if a modality of relation can be inferred from it, in a second moment Lacan will apply to the formalization of the non sexual relation.
