In the field of psychoanalytical investigation, the report of clinical cases is understood as a tool for theoretical elaboration of psychoanalytical experiences. In this work we intend to present the theoretical basis and to discuss the use of case reports as a method of psychoanalytical investigation and elaboration based on a research in which reports of sessions in two kinds of clinical devices were compared: the institutional session and the individual session. From reflections on this work we conclude that case reports are an integrating part of the session and can become substance for the diagnostic apprehension of the case both in the individual and in the institutional session, for in both transference, in different manifestations, is present.
