RICHTER, Ernesto Pacheco; ORTOLANO, Fábio  e  GIACOMINI, Adriana. Political june: crowd and multitude on brazilian streets. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.29, pp.71-86. ISSN 1519-549X.

The different features linked to crowds and multitudes indicate a rhetorical issue, since the antagonism of their conceptions tends to endorse the viewpoint taken in the analysis of large agglomerations of individuals. The concept of crowd is related to a conservative approach, while the multitude is associated with a progressive one. Hence, the masses have been thought up as irrational and their members would be exposed to a suggestion by emotional contagion, crowds, on the other hand, are composed of plural singularities, flexible, and united by their shared struggles and claims. We propose to emphasize how the journey of protests that took place in Brazil, in June 2013, reveals the destructive irrationality of the crowds as well as the dispute over benefits and the power of the multitudes, as we believe that both postulations contribute to this psychopolitical analysis.
