NAVES, Mauro Bilharinho. From the divine child to the jorney of the hero: symbols and miths in psycho-analytical group psychotherapy. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.1, pp.65-73. ISSN 1677-2970.

The symbol is a portrait of mankind, it reavels its incompleteness and shows his ever lasting effort to surpass this condition. Hence, the symbol, representation of each of us, looks for others symbols and although don’t give us completeness, provide chances of development. The symbolic constellations shape configurations that are called myths. Each time a symbol finds another, they develop bonds, the support and management of which depend on the myths. Among the main symbolic references of humankind are the divine child, the hero, the great mother, the father and the trickster. The divine child refers to the main axis of personality that has a narcissistic origin and makes possible the cohesion of self. It depicts the divine breath, a union with nature, a direct and intuitive knowledge. The divine child emerges finished, nothing is missing. The hero, on other hand, needs to fight to suceed in his mission. The trickster represents the good and evil surprises of human life. It introduces sudden changes in the path and reveals something that was being denied or overlooked. The father is a representation of the law, the laws of the culture and the laws of nature. The great mother, in turn, is a representation of the possessive holder of life, but also its support, warmth and rest. In gropes sessions of psychotherapy we can identified this productions of imaginary and how to deal with them.
