It is a integrative literature review performed from the research question: what are the characteristics of good teachers in the health field? Whose question took on scientific productions indexed in the database the Latin American and Caribbean Health (Lilacs) and Bank of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) publicized between 1996 and 2010. The collection of studies on the bases went through three refinements, and found 164 studies in total, of which seven met the criteria. Analysis of data categories emerged from the good personal characteristics, good features and good teaching relational characteristics that demonstrate that the good professor of higher education in health beyond skills directly related to their teaching practice, as highlighted in this study like good pedagogical characters, being example a relational pedagogical stance and wich encourage autonomy of students, also need to demonstrate personal quality such as punctuality and organization.
