INTRODUCTION: There is a close relationship between social skills and pragmatic language. OBJECTIVE: Considering that the "innocence" experienced by individuals with High Functioning Autism (HFA), that has a direct correlation with impairment in social skills, this paper aims at defining which aspects of language can to contribute to this behavior. METHODS: This paper uses the cognitive approach of language, which links linguistic, cognitive and social domains. The parallel between the speaker Innocent of Fillmore (1979) and data from previous research (Mousinho, 2003; 2010) and cores extracted from autobiographies of individuals with High Functioning Autism (Grandin & Scariano, 1986; Williams, 1992) was chosen for the joint goal.
