Introduction: The growth in elderly population represents significant changes in the structure of the population pyramid in all the world. On face of that, the World Health Organization (WHO) advocates for the "active ageing", setting aim on the promotion, protection and rehabilitation of elderly's health. Objective: Comprehend health conceptions in the discourse of the elderly. Method: Qualitative research conducted with six elderly in the geriatric clinic of a philanthropic hospital in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco. For the data collection, individual semistructured interviews were conducted and its results were then analyzed using Content Analysis. Results: The health conceptions configurate meaning regarding autonomy, functional ability, resilience, equity in health services and humanization in the assistence for the elderly. Conclusion: In order to comprehend the health conceptions in the discourse of the eldery a biopsychosocial analysis is necessary to understand their reality and health conditions. In this sense, the importance of Gerontology, a field of multiprofessional and interdisciplinary study and work of the human ageing process, was noted in a holistic comprehension of elderly's health.
