MOREIRA, Jacqueline de Oliveira. Politics and the unconscious: between foreignness and extimacy. Analytica [online]. 2019, vol.8, n.14, pp.1-18. ISSN 2316-5197.
This theoretical essay proposes a discussion concerning possible articulations between psychoanalysis and politics. Among the many different paths available to make this discussion possible, we chose as a starting point Hannah Arendt's concept of politics and proceeded with a search for mentions of the word "politics" in Freudian texts. Our intent is to reflect on the Freudian definition of the unconscious as a subversive political act, as it introduces the formulation of desire and gives voice to the subjects who have been eclipsed by civilizing massification. We concluded that the Freudian formalization of the unconscious reveals the paradoxical relationship of the subject with the Other, since the state of complete helplessness reveals the dependence on the Other and, paradoxically, the necessity of mediating this relationship of discontents (Freud, 1930/1974). The notion of unconscious gives a double translation of "politics", firstly because politics and the unconscious are results of the condition of helplessness and, secondly, because politics and the unconscious represent attempts to deal with the discontents produced in and by the relationship with the Other (Freud, 1930/1974).
