BECKER, Nathália Brandolim    HELENO, Maria Geralda Viana. Adaptive efficacy in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Bol. psicol []. 2016, 66, 145, pp.159-170. ISSN 0006-5943.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects people's daily life because they need regular care, which causes distress and difficulty to accept the disease and preserve good glycemic control. Therefore, this research aimed to (1) evaluate the quality of the adaptive efficacy in Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) and (2) to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of people with this disease. The results showed that the quality of the adaptation of the participants was Moderate Ineffective Adaptation (91.0%) tending to Severe Adaptation Inefficacy. The analysis of socio-demographic data reported that the participants had more than six years of being diagnosed (54.4%), poor diet (71.4%) and did not practice any physical activity (64.8%). Considering the data reported, the prognosis for such patients is considerably bad. This research leads us to consider the relevance of investments in education and diabetes prevention programs and control in order to avoid acute and chronic complications
