Risk and protection factors during a person's growth may influence the development of common mental disorders in teenagers. Through national and international studies it is possible to find this topic. Nevertheless, they do not present an agreement possible of being widespread. This investigation aims to evaluate the risk and protection factors associated with Common Mental Disorder in teenager students. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, analytical, and observational study. The sample of this study included 302 adolescents aged between 14 and 19 years, who were students of two educational institutions in two different cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. For this, the participants underwent the following instruments: Brazil Criterion Questionnaire, Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Social Support Appraisals (SSA), Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ), The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). For data analysis, logistic regression was used. The results indicate that the variables of female gender, a family member having a diagnosis of common mental disorder, high victimization in the last year, and low and high victimization at some time in life, and not having siblings, are significantly associated with common mental disorders.
