The participation of children in guiding public policies is a challenge and an opportunity. In Brazil, this process still needs to be build. In order to experience participatory methodologies for children inclusion in city's planning and infrastructure policies, listen to their opinions on the place where they live and on the equipment used, we conducted workshops with 65 children of both sexes, aged between 4 and 12 years living in the slum Santa Marta. Through these methodologies, they talked about the problems that affect them, such as garbage, open sewer, animal feces and substandard habitation. They emphasized both problems with safety and preservation of the recreational equipment in the slum. They also discussed the tram lift and the UPP (Pacifying Police Unit). This experience reveals that listening to children can help planning an urban intervention project more appropriate to their different forms of usage and expectations.
