MALDONADO, Randy Quiñones-; TABOAS, Alfonso Martínez-    GOMEZ, José Rodríguez-. Psychopathy in hispanic populations and clinical considerations for treatment. Rev. Puertorriq. Psicol. []. 2014, 25, pp.10-28. ISSN 1946-2026.

The study of psychopathy has drastically increased during the last three decades, especially since the development of the Psychopathy Checklist (PCL) by Robert Hare. This happened because the instrument has proven its capacity to identify those inmates who are four times more likely to recidivate in violent crimes. In this brief literature review, the authors compare and summarize studies made with the PCL in Hispanic countries. The prevalence of psychopathy is lower in these countries when compared with the United States. In Puerto Rico, the study of psychopathy has been limited to one case study and one program design. Recommendations for treatment are discussed and emphasis has been added on the benefits and legal implications of validating an instrument to screen for psychopathic traits.
