The aim of this study was to ascertain associations among the personality traits, anxiety and depression in soccer players. 29 players attending at a soccer team of a city of the interior of the state of São Paulo, aged from 17 to 21 years old, with mean age of 19 years (Dp=1,07) were studied. The BAI, composed by 21 items with descriptive information of the anxiety symptoms; and the BDI, composed by 21 items presenting descriptions of depression symptoms were collectively applied. In both instruments items must be assessed by the citizen referencing itself in terms of each frequency of occurrence in a 3 point scale. The personality measure was taken by the Big Five that presents 64 adjectives, which the participants must assess, the agreement intensity that the items characterizes them in a five points scale. Amongst the results, negative correlation between the Neuroticism and the anxiety was ascertain, indicating that the higher the Neuroticism, the lower the anxiety. These data opposes the definition of the trait. Specific anxiety symptoms correlated with the studied traits but the depression symptoms did not. The anxiety and depression measures comparison in the personality traits contrasting groups confirmed these data.
