Some studies indicate that, regardless of the attachment to some sort of organizational commitment in particular, this multidimensional construct predicts organizational outcomes such as performance, satisfaction, and well-being (Wright & Davis, 2001; Wright & Bonett, 2002). Studies conducted in the university setting show that organizational commitment seems to be reflected in the performance levels of academics; there was no difference between public and private universities (Karakus & Battal, 2009). The present study sought to analyze the influence of organizational commitment and well-being at work on subjective well-being. The sample consists of 635 employees, teachers and staff of higher education public institutions in Portugal. The results suggest a positive impact of affective commitment and well-being at work on subjective well-being. We suggest future studies, in order to deepen the theme.
