Although religiosity and spirituality provide well-being for patients and that what was common to religions, spiritualities and beliefs has come to be seen as scientifically recognized, religious and spiritual issues are still uncomfortable for health professionals. Therefore, the general objective of this article was to investigate whether such professionals handle such issues with their patients in the public and private health spheres. Through a systematic review of the scientific literature in the online databases SciELO, LILACS and PePSIC-VHL with the descriptors "spiritual practices" AND "psychology", 10 articles were identified. As a result, it was concluded that the health professionals who most handle their patients' spiritual issues were psychologists and nurses with variations between qualified listening, possible attention, RIME intervention, inhibition, lack of information, and some neglect. Management's contribution to patient well-being when shared was positive.
