BRITO, Annie Mehes Maldonado; CAMARGO, Brigido Vizeu    CASTRO, Amanda. Social Representations of Old Age and Good Old Age Among Elders and Their Social Network. Rev. Psicol. IMED []. 2017, 9, 1, pp.5-21. ISSN 2175-5027.  https://doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2017.v9i1.1416.

This study aimed to verify the social representations of old age and good old age for elders and their social network. The study included 40 elderly and 40 members of their social network, all residents in Florianópolis (Brazil) and registered in basic public health care units. Data were collected by using semi-directive interviews, associated with episodic interview technique, as well as questions for sociodemographic characterization. Each interview subject was organized in a corpus, which was submitted to a Descending Hierarchical Classification, using IRaMuTeQ software. For the elders, the social representation of old age is anchored between the poles of activity versus inactivity. On the other hand, for members of the elders' social network, old age is understood as the oscillation between appreciation versus depreciation. Finally, the social representation of good old age comprised economical, family and behavioral dimensions.
