The concept of metacognition is related to the perception and the self-monitoring of the learning process, it is learning about the process of learning or the appropriation and control of the internal resources that are connected to the external objects. Metacognition is the human ability of monitoring and self regulate the learning processes. This paper is aimed to a bibliographical research about metacognition as a psychopedagogical intervention for the development of self-monitoring. The objective is to analyze the concept of matacognition, the elements used in the researches, the target audience, the intervention methods and the main conclusions in the given essays. The method involved the search of Brazilian articles on the subject based on the following data bases: SciELO, Capes, BVS-Psi e PePSI. Among the articles found, five of them were considered for their field research with students, which focused on the identification of the resources of metacognition for learning. These articles were analysed based on five criteria: metacognition concept, population, tools used, intervention methods and main conclusions. Four of the essays are about the analysis of the reading process of general texts and one is about the interpretation of mathematics problems. Due to the focus on the education we selected university students, thus the discussion went towards the necessity of the development of the metacognition for the learning process.
