Abstract

SANTOS, Andréia dos  and  CARVALHO, Cristina Vilela de. Pregnacy in adolescence: an exploratory study. Bol. psicol [online]. 2006, vol.56, n.125, pp. 135-151. ISSN 0006-5943.

The purpose of this work was to gather information on the psychic motives that lead adolescents to become pregnant in a precocious stage of life, in spite of the substantial information available on contraceptive methods. From individual interviews with three pregnant adolescents of 13, 15 and 16 years of age, enrolled in the Prenatal Programs of the Basic Health Units of Maringá, PR, an exploratory study was conducted using a psychoanalytic approach to analyze the interviews. It was concluded that one of the factors that lead the adolescents to become pregnant is the lack of self-continence to deal with their anguishes and impulses, which was not sufficiently supported by their families and by their the social group.
