Abstract

ZIBETTI, Marli Lúcia Tonatto. The challenges of practical pedagogy in heterogeneous literacy classes. Bol. psicol [online]. 2006, vol.56, n.125, pp. 221-240. ISSN 0006-5943.

Based on ethnographic research, we discuss the implications of the Basic Cycle (Ciclo Básico), meaning the first two school years, to the pedagogical practice into a public school of the state system in the city of Rolim de Moura, interior of Rondonia - Northwestern Brazil. The data analyzed reveal that the expected continuous work of the same teacher with the same group of students during the two first years of school does not really happen. The great mobility of children due to social and economic conditions makes the teacher work with different children every year. The heterogeneity of the group, due to the high number of transferred children, brings as a consequence very heterogeneous classes to teach. This challenge is faced solitarily by the teacher, once there is no help and no pedagogical support for the development of a pedagogical practice more adequate to the necessity of the students.
