Breathing is a phenomenon rich in archetypal images, that plays a symbolic function in the process of individuation. Psychosomatic studies in the context of Analytical Psychology, allow for the understanding of diseases in a symbolic perspective as it considers psyche and body as a single and complex reality within an archetypal totality. The present study investigates diagnosed allergic rhinitis of a 47-year-old woman as a symbolic expression within the individuation process. We conclude that the analysis of symbolic aspects of allergic rhinitis helps us to reflect upon its occurrence and ontological meaning in this particular case. This reflection reveals archetypal aspects of allergic rhinitis and offers a basis for understanding this disease in the context of Jungian clinical practice and provides some elements for further developments on body-mind phenomena researches.
