Abstract

The purpose of this study is to point out some pertinent aspects of a Psychological Emergency Attendance Service implantation at the Universidade do Sagrado Coração (Bauru/Sao Paulo). This service offers psychological emergency attendance to the community who spontaneously request such service without any previous scheduling. The service was implanted as an experimental practice in 2000 and since then it has been developing and consolidating itself as a new type of clinical attendance producing researches, studies, extension projects and practices. The Psychological Emergency Attendance has arisen as a service to attend the Brazilian suffering needs which has its origin in the current political, social, and economical situation, providing a psychological attention to the suffering and urgency of the contemporary human being.
