The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life of public school students of São Paulo city. A representative sample comprising 2.434 teenagers answered to SF-36 to assess quality of life and to another instrument for checking their social economic level. It was observed that the quality of life of this population is influenced by several and distinct features of everyday life. Male students stated better quality of life than female students. Evaluations of better quality of life were more frequent in younger than in older teenagers and also among the wealthier. These results suggest the need of new investigations with this population.
