Abstract

BALLAS, Yael Gotlieb; ALVES, Irai Cristina Boccato  and  DUARTE, Walquiria Fonseca. Human Figure Drawings of diabetic and non diabetic adolescents. Bol. psicol [online]. 2011, vol.61, n.134, pp. 43-61. ISSN 0006-5943.

Adolescence is a period of intense body changes, either biological either psychological. Diabetes Mellitus, a disease that imposes many restrictions, can make worse this stage. The hypothesis of this research was that the body image of diabetic adolescents would present singular features when compared to adolescents without the disease, mainly due to the disease. The Draw a Person Test and the Draw a Diabetic Person were applied to investigate these differences. The sample was composed by 62 adolescents, aged 14 to 20 years old, 36 female and 26 male adolescents, 31 with diabetes and 31 without. The Draw a Person Test and the Draw a Diabetic Person were analyzed according to the Machover (1949) evaluation, adapted by Lourenção Van Kolck (1984). Results indicated that adolescents with diabetes presented some special personality characteristics, as an effect of the disease itself.
