The codependency is a condition under specific psychological, behavioral and emotional ambit, which is characterized by an excessive reliance on one individual over another. The objective of this research is to understand how the individual codependent perceives himself. Through a qualitative and exploratory approach, data were collected in a support group, named CODA, located in Várzea Grande-MT, with the participation of six participants of the group. It was used an open questionnaire and data analysis occurred through the technique of content analysis. The results and discussions highlight that codependency is characterized by a series of symptoms and attitudes full of defense mechanism. Thus, realizes that society has a distorted view of codependency or do not know it. It is understood, furthermore, that attention to the codependent is an essential factor in the support necessary to overcome this condition which a person belongs.
