Abstract

PEREIRA, Omar Calazans Nogueira et al. Playing videogame as a symbolical experience: interviews with players. Bol. psicol [online]. 2012, vol.62, n.136, pp. 81-91. ISSN 0006-5943.

This research aims to investigate, from the perspective of C. G. Jung Analytical Psychology, the relationship player-game in the universe of digital games, holding as main questions the influence of such games on the players lives and the formation of symbols and images resulting from that relationship. Semi-directed interviews with four players were conducted, and their analysis showed a diversified influence on the player´s psychic life, which may be resumed in the following aspects: escape from everyday life, search for new apprenticeship and experiences, experiencing opposed polarities. As an emergent question, which may inspire further researches, the paper suggests a more precise investigation of the shadow and the persona in the relationship player-game. Another evolving question concerns the relevance of investigating this relationship for providing clinical material, based on the significance of the task implied in symbol elaboration.

Keywords : Videogame; digital games; player-game relationship; symbolical experience.
