This study investigated the perceptions of forensic psychologists about their role in sexual abuse situations against children and adolescents. Five professionals with experience in this area working in different cities of Rio Grande do Sul were interviewed. The content of the interviews was analyzed with software webQDA, generating four categories: (1) the potential of Psychology; (2) difficulties; (3) requirements for the task; and (4) decision making. Data showed that the work of the psychologists reconciles the needs of the justice system with those of the population involved in violence situations, contributing to prove the fact and to protect those involved.
