The objective of this study was to identify the function of food in the family of a teenager who has bulimia, establishing the eating patterns and the significance of food in family history. The method used was a case study. It was performed an interview and a genogram with the family members. The results showed a feeding pattern characterized by much abundance and variety. The results also showed that food may have the function of bonding family members, providing moments of interaction between members and bringing people outside the family. The meaning of food in this family seems to be the recovery of their story and the transformation of their future
