Abstract

BENITEZ, Priscila; GOMES, Máyra Laís de Carvalho; SCHELINI, Patrícia Waltz  and  DOMENICONI, Camila. Evidence of validity of reading and writing diagnosis in relation do WISC-III in intellectual disabilities. Bol. psicol [online]. 2015, vol.65, n.142, pp. 83-96. ISSN 0006-5943.

The use of two or more assessments techniques may contribute to establish one diagnosis, such as intellectual disabilities (ID). The purpose was to indicate possible relationships between the test Diagnóstico de Leitura e Escrita (DLE) (Reading and Writing Diagnosis), that assess the reading and writing performance, and the intelligence quotients (IQs) of the WISC-III in participants with ID, to find evidences of validity to the first test.. Both tests were applied in 16 children diagnosed with ID. To accomplish the objective, the scores of each task of the DLE and the IQs and Factor Indexes of WISC-III were correlated. Results indicated moderates or low correlations between the WISC-III results and DLE scores that tended to be not significant. Relationships between reading and writing behaviors and abilities that integrate intelligence, assessed by WISC-III, were discussed. Suggestions for future studies are proposed and indicated the limitations of this study
