LOPEZ-ROBLEDO, Yaritza M.; CUMBA-AVILES, Eduardo  e  BERNAL, Guillermo. Psychotic and quasi-psychotic atypical experiences in Puerto Rican depressed adolescents: prevalence and related factors. Interam. j. psychol. [online]. 2009, vol.43, n.2, pp. 350-361. ISSN 0034-9690.

The prevalence of psychotic and quasi-psychotic atypical experiences was estimated and its correlates were identified in 162 Puerto Rican adolescents (13 to 17.5 years old). Depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation, as well as the presence or history of atypical experiences, traumatic events and maltreatment or abuse were evaluated. Atypical experiences were related (.05) to gender (female), physical illness, history of traumatic events, history of treatment for depression, as well as to high depressive symptomatology and suicidal ideation. Traumatic events, pharmacological treatment for depression, and severity of suicidal ideation were significant predictors of the total experiences reported. Findings confirm that most experiences reported were definitely non-psychotic. The implications for the assessment and treatment of depressed youth are discussed.
