The World Bank has been established that psychological and neurological research must be of importance to understand all about cognitive processes in illiterate adults. Such research could result in better educational practices in developing countries. Although it is not exhaustive, this article review some research about brain plasticity, memory, neuropsychological processes, and differences between literate and illiterate adults in processing spoken language, mostly Castro-Caldas (2004; Castro-Caldas, Reis, & Guerreiro, 1997; Castro-Caldas & Reis, 2000; Petersson et al., 2007) team research in Portugal. With this partial revierw of literature, we wanted to put some perspective about the importance of the neurological research for developing better psycho educative practices for illiterate adults, or adults in the process of learning to read and write.
