Abstract

BORGES, Juliana Marques Caldeira; PINTO, Jorge Andrade  and  RICAS, Janete. HIV - Positive mothers and children: fear, anguish and silence making childhood invisible. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2009, n.32, pp. 71-80. ISSN 0100-3437.

Based on the discourse of HIV-positive mothers who transmitted the infection to their infants via mother-to-child transmission (vertical), the authors looked into the implications brought into the children’s lives by maternal subjectivity. They analized how childhood can be affected by the HIV virus, which goes far beyond the biological questions related to infection, and focuses mainly on the psychological implications presented in this context.

Keywords : HIV/Aids; Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT); Subjectivity; Child; Mother-child relation.
