Abstract

MENDES, Eliana Rodrigues Pereira. The Name of the Father and the social bonds in “Grande Sertão: Veredas”. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2010, n.33, pp.49-54. ISSN 0100-3437.

The author tracks back the importance of the nomination of Riobaldo, main character of the romance “Grande Sertão:Veredas”, since he was a nameless orphan boy, till his constitution as the gunman Riobaldo Tatarana, and after that, as the chief “Urutu Branco”. Riobaldo builds up his name along his journey throughout Brazilian wilderness, and converts himself into a nominating-father-chief, in a subjective re-signification, establishing definite social bonds with his followers.

Keywords : Name of the Father; Proper Name; Social Bonds; Subjective Re-signification.
