Abstract

MAIA, Luís  and  ANDRADE, Fernando Cézar Bezerra de. Nachträglichkeit: readings about time in metapsychology and clinic. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2010, n.33, pp. 75-90. ISSN 0100-3437.

Throughout the history of psychoanalysis and the constitution of the psychoanalytical metapsychology, the notion of time reflects many explanations about the trauma’s dynamism and, furthermore, about human psychism, the unconscious and its investigation. From Freud until his successors, depending on the metapsychological perspective taken, there has been theoretical and clinical consequences: psychoanalysis either approaches or distances from the knowledge about its object. In this article, two analysis about time, from de perspective of Nachträglichkeit are presented: Jean Laplanche’s (2006) and Jacques André’s (2009) readings converge to affirm a permanent tension in the Nachträglichkeit. If that tension is metapsychologically neglected there will be a theoretical inconsistence and the risk of a hermeneutic practice, causing the disappearance of trauma in the explanatory model of psyche. Both authors agree about the necessary presence of otherness inherent in the original trauma. According to them, when the repetition in transference reopens that trauma it creates the conditions to its working-through: if the original trauma happened in an encounter with other human, only another meeting can reopen it.
