LAGO, Marilúcia; BESSOLES, Philippe  e  PIOVESAN, Angélica. The nature of evil in intergenerational transmission. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2010, n.34, pp. 105-110. ISSN 0100-3437.

Recognizing him/herself as a unique person, different and distinctive from others is the result of a process of identity construction that is built, not without effort and pain, over a lifetime. That process begins in childhood and is articulated around the subject’s life history, the history of the family group that he/she participates and whose order of generations he/she integrates and the culture in which he/she operates. Thus, the process of subjectivation is organized and developed over the backdrop of the psychic life of the family and is inseparable from it. The subject’s own mental functioning, as well as his/her creativity and courses, is structured within a framework of intersubjective transmission. However, although the process of transmission of psychic life is fundamental to the structuring of subjectivity, we must also consider that it may involve negative aspects that sometimes hinder the construction of identity and the freedom of the subject. In this study, we propose a reflection on the nature of evil and the existence of negative aspects of intergenerational transmission, from the narrative and the life history of a group of young inmates undergoing treatment for drug recovery.
