Abstract

This paper deals with, from a psychoanalytical focus, one of the forms of the manifestation of situation designated in psychiatry as “encopresis”: “evacuation in one’s clothing”. Based on a perspective that, from the unconscious point of view the subject is always responsible, we emphasize that because the acquisition of hygiene still depends upon biological aspects, it is the (unconscious) choice of the subject in view of the demand of the Other. Thus, based upon this understanding and some fragments of the discourse of the parents of these children, we have produced some considerations regarding this symptom and its treatment through psychoanalysis, showing how the boys whom we have assisted who presented this situation displayed a narcissistic posture, by not ceding the feces object in favor of love of the Other.
