We turn to Clérambault and Freud’s conceptual formulations, which gave basis to the diagnosis field of violent passions, and then increase these with contemporary psychoanalytical views. Another approach is through the description of a clinical and criminal case studied by Daniel Lagache, where the webbing between paranoia and jealousy, together with violence during the love act, makes one think about an hybrid kind of passion, defined by its opposite as pseudopassion. As a motto to the understanding of these concepts, some phenomenological aspects of the acting out on the tragedy of passion through literary examples well known on the works of Machado de Assis, as Don Casmurro, and Shakespeare’s Othello.
