Abstract

MENENDEZ, Ramón. The Autism: Question of science or ideology?. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2012, n.38, pp. 115-124. ISSN 0100-3437.

The latest political decisions in France seem to turn into the direction of promoting educational and behavioural techniques in the treatment of autism. This is happening in opposition to psychoanalysis and in the name of the science. This paper seeks to describe the ideologies and political issues of the work of Eric Schopler, who became know thanks to the program T.E.A.C.C.H. for autistic children treatment, which himself created. This program is mentioned very often as model that must be followed. Schopler emphasises the work with the parents. Without caring enough about the subjective dimension of children, he organises a network of parents of autistics and puts pressure on the legislative for recognition of autism as a handicap and as well as the development of his technique to realize one governmental program in the North Caroline (USA). The clinical and scientific issues of his work are not very strict.
