Abstract

MEZZA, Martín. An objection to the autonomous “I”: the mirror stage. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2015, n.44, pp. 63-70. ISSN 0100-3437.

In psychoanalytic doxa the mirror stage is treated and transmitted to new analysts, as a symbolic - imaginary construct, more imaginary than symbolic, that is linked exclusively to the formation of the self, and continues Freud’s elaborations on narcissism. Thus, not only became invisible the differences between the Freudian and Lacanian elaborations, but also lost the most innovative references brought by the conceptual construct of the mirror stage. This article aims to return the letter of Lacan to find the structural conditions of such deviation, and highlight the strategic role of the mirror stage plays in psychoanalytic theory and technique.

Keywords : Mirror Stage; I; Identification; Autonomy; Narcissism.
