Abstract

BANDEIRA, Gisele da Silva  and  POSTIGO, Vanuza Monteiro Campos. Give me a like?: I shoot, therefore I am: hysteria and virtual networks. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2015, n.44, pp. 109-116. ISSN 0100-3437.

In this paper we present a clinical case study in order to discuss how individuals relate to others in social networks, as we consider this relationships to express one of the facets of psychological distress in contemporary times. Listening to contemporary individuals, as psychoanalysts, has lead us to observe changes in clinical demands and in the way they get enacted in the analytical setting. We shall highlight how the new possibilities of communication and interaction provided by technology and the internet runs through the subject and cause new - updated - forms of “pantomime”, important feature of classical cases of hysteria. By listening to details of present day suffering and contextualizing our reflection about it in a cultural scenario marked by the aestheticization of existence and publicity of present day subject, we unveil an imagetic and outside oriented cultural background - that favors a libidinal economy dedicated to the seduction, fascination and exhibition - for the patient’s drama.
