Abstract

NOBREGA, Sylvia Brandão. On-line psychoanalysis: finally out of the closet?. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2015, n.44, pp. 145-150. ISSN 0100-3437.

Some researchers, recent articles and a panel discussion at the XVII International Psychoanalytical Forum called “Psychoanalysis.net”, held in Mexico City, in 2012 were reviewed. Authors such as R. Carlino and J. S. Scharff wrote about screen relations, having concluded that, in general, the trend towards distance psychoanalysis is inevitable and will continue to expand. However, Cibele Barbieri (2005) in an article, wonders whether a virtual encounter with an alleged psychoanalyst is able to produce analytical transference. It is evident that this issue is controversial, despite the fact that my research suggests that the adoption of this new technology is inevitable and will be part of the armamentarium used by analysts for the psychoanalytical treatment. More and more the screen is been used, when face to face sessions are not possible. Not until we have more research done will we be able to verify the effectiveness of this form of practicing psychoanalysis and only then will know if we can call screen therapy - psychoanalysis.

Keywords : On-line psychoanalysis; Psychoanalytical technique; Screen therapy.
