Abstract

MARTINS, Janaína da Mota. “My dear friend”: considerations about correspondence and friendship in virtual times. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2016, n.45, pp. 65-70. ISSN 0100-3437.

Nowadays, keeping in touch goes beyond the interchange of letters and, despite this, written messages still involve strong and lasting affective relationships. Among the different possibilities when talking about bonds, we propose in this paper to explore the concepts of correspondence and friendship, starting from the assumption that writing about oneself toward another person - no matter if by means of a letter or into cyberspace - creates conditions to bind with the other and makes possible self-construction and transformation of self-concept. Taking into account the current criticism about the potential of virtualized relations to disturb creation of bonds, we discuss the possibilities and limits of friendship development in virtual times.

Keywords : Writing; Correspondence; Friendship; Bonds and virtual relationships.
