The purpose of this article is to understand the psychic functioning of male hysteria, taking into account the socio-historical context in which the theory is developed. In the early days of psychoanalysis and to a large extent by some post-Freudian thinkers, hysteria is designed connected to the female. Freud at the beginning of his work already questions about the hysteria just as manifestation in the female and is interested in the hysteria attached to men. In this article, the authors make a brief study of male hysteria, by reviewing the literature work of Freud and contemporary authors.
