Abstract

MELO, Rodrigo Zanon de. When Oedipus isn’t destiny: rethinking the transsexual phenomenon as an identificatory possibility and of psychical existence. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2016, n.45, pp. 149-165. ISSN 0100-3437.

This paper purposes to explore the transsexual phenomenon through an identitary perspective. Transsexuality is thought as a possible way for a ‘psychical existence’ in instances where there is no possibilty of an oedipic experience. So the classical psychoanalytical model of an oedipic identification is subverted to a preedipical identificatory one through gender identity. First there is a short presentation on transsexuality, were the theme will be shown through the theorical construction of Robert Stoller. Then we’ll present a short piece from a case where, viewed through borderline clinics, transsexuality appears as a way of psychically living. Thus the transexual phenomenon will be labored outer a pathologic registry.

Keywords : Transsexuality; Ppsychical existence; Identification; Preedipic experience; Gender identity.
