Abstract

LAZARINI, Gabriela. Initial Comments on Melancholy. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2017, n.48, pp. 147-155. ISSN 0100-3437.

The interest in studying melancholy is justified by the belief that it carries an enigma, which puts us in front of subjects who seem to bring the keys to the mysteries of existence. The enigma that extends, not limited to clinical impasses, doubts about the psychic structure behind a speech, questions about what to do when complaints are scarce and a history of pain and loss is told in a tone of indifference. Enigma shared between the fields of arts, culture, philosophy, science and psychoanalysis. Is there a relation between the modes of knowledge developed by modern science and the appearance of subjectivities marked by strong depressive features? What does Psychoanalysis have to say in this early research about what we current call depression? These are the starting points for this work.

Keywords : Melancholy; Mourning; Mania; Narcissism; Phallus; Desire.
