Abstract

MEDEIROS, Rosilda Maria Sá Gonçalves de  and  PASSOS, Maria Consuêlo. The lost rocking of a hammock and ceramics making: the art of modelling the self. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2018, n.49, pp. 169-180. ISSN 0100-3437.

This article brings a poetic dip in the painful experience with the death of the mother of one of the authors, felt as a primitive scene of helplessness, symbolized by hand-crafting a standard-sized clay hammock. This work of art - the centerpiece of the installation Repouso - was conceived with support for this loss of resonance in the creation of oneself, the resignification of life and the experience of preparing for passing. The Winnicottian referential - especially the notions of creativity, play, potential space - is used as a focus that illuminates the relationship between pain of loss and artistic creation. This interlacing marks the relevance of this psychoanalytic theory for the understanding of artistic poetic production. Throughout the text, we try to discuss this experience of art and pain, revealing how the creative process unfolds, amplifies and engenders in the simultaneous production of self and artistic work.

Keywords : Artistic creation; Ceramics making; Winnicott; Potential Space; Self-creation.
