This paper is a descriptive quantitative study done in a child mental health service of the Municipal Health Department of the Belo Horizonte City Government which is part of the Brazilian Universal Health System. We investigate effects of a Psychoanalytically Oriented Early Intervention with 49 children with difficulties in psychic development, showing positive results both clinically and in relation to the satisfaction of the families served. We discuss the importance of further work to deepen the knowledge of a Psychoanalytically Oriented Early Intervention as a clinical strategy associated with traditional treatment for these infants and children.
