Abstract

BARRETO, Robenilson  and  CECCARELLI, Paulo Roberto. Psychoanalytic considerations on racial prejudice: a case study. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2018, n.50, pp. 145-154. ISSN 0100-3437.

This paper brings out reflections on racial relations between whites and blacks in Brazil and their psychic unfolding in the subjective constructions of black subjects. Based on the psychoanalytic theoretical framework of identificatory processes, on the narcissism of small differences, and on issues related to the discursive construction of racial prejudice, racism is studied as a social phenomenon. A research was done through semi-structured interviews, with two UFPA students: one of Brazilian nationality and a student of Guinean nationality who were victims of racial prejudice. The results showed a historical and cultural difference between the experiences of the Brazilian student and the Guinean student, both in Belém, Pará State, Brazil.

Keywords : Racial prejudice; Psychoanalysis; Identification process.
