Abstract

LORENZ, Sérgio Roberto Lima. A trip to South Africa: reflexion about the evil that lives inside of us. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2019, n.51, pp. 131-137. ISSN 0100-3437.

From the experience of a trip to South Africa in mid-January 2018, this paper thinks apartheid - a regime derived from nazism and fascism - as one of the representatives of the drive to hate. The work operates with concepts of drive, narcissism and sadism. The text seeks to answer whether regimes such as these are fruits of pathological mentalities or just projections of the evil that inhabits us, from the Freudian readings, Introduction to Narcissism, The Instincts and Their Destinies and the Civilization’s Bad Being. It’s assumed that the second hypothesis is the most plausible.

Keywords : Hate drive; Death drive; Narcissism; Apartheid; Psychoanalysis.
